How to choose a travel or recruitment agent in Ghana
Working abroad is a big decision, and the people who help you get there matter as much as the destination. In Ghana, as elsewhere, most agencies do honest work, but a few do not, and it is hard to tell them apart when you are eager to travel.
The first thing to look for is a clear process. A serious agency can explain each step in writing: what documents they need, who reviews them, roughly how long it takes, and who makes the final decision. If the answers stay vague, treat that as a warning sign.
Be careful with anyone who guarantees a visa. No agency can promise approval, because that decision belongs to the embassy or immigration authority. The honest wording is guidance and support, not guaranteed. Our look at how BMK Travel Consult runs this process shows what that clarity looks like in practice.
Ask about money plainly. What is the fee, when is it due, and what is it for? A legitimate agency should put this in writing. A request for a large cash payment up front, with nothing on paper, is a reason to slow down.
Ask who the employers are and how they were verified. If the agency works through licensed migration partners, ask for that detail. Matching should be based on demand from real employers, not on a list invented to look busy.
Talk to past applicants if you can. Testimonials are useful, but a direct conversation with someone who went through the process tells you more. Ask what surprised them, and what they wish they had known earlier.
Keep your own copies of everything. Passport, Ghana Card, medicals, school certificates, and an updated CV should be in your hands as well as the agency. A professional agency expects this and supports it.
None of this is about being suspicious for its own sake. It is about giving yourself the information you need to make a calm decision. If you run a travel or recruitment service and want applicants to see how you work before they call, get in touch.
